In our ESL English as a second language classes you will develop language skills. Reading, listening comprehension, critical thinking, vocabulary and pronunciation. Analyze scripts from Oscar nominated & Oscar winning films from all genres: comedic, dramatic and action adventure. Such as Great Gatsby, Les miserable, Ted, Lone Ranger, Thor, Dallas Buyers Club. 12 Years as a Slave, The Wolf of Wall StreetAmerican Hustle, Gravity, Captain Phillips and many more. To grow you vocabulary and learn to pick up American speaking rhythm, tonality, and how to think quickly on your feet.

Advanced/Beginner English for Actors at the Michelle Danner Los Angeles Acting Studio

Each class will fuse skill development with the practice of theatre and film performance and production. Which may include: improvisation, grammar worksheets, focused discussion. Reading samples, script analysis, in-class writing, pronunciation and articulation development. And watching/commenting on works of theatre and film.

Working in the USA

Our school is located at the Edgemar Center for the Arts. A 2 theater and art gallery complex in Santa Monica. The 6 & 12 month Well Rounded Training Intensive gives students the opportunity to build their resumes. And IMDB credits, through practical training and our various casting opportunities. We also offer a Breaking into the Industry Seminar. So that you can be ready when your program is complete and begin your work as an actor. Once approved for the OPT (Optional Practical Training). You will also be provided with a list of agents, and managers that represent international actors and how to best use them to your advantage.


Below are some of the classes offered in the program:

Choosing a Song That Is Right for You

Based on voice range and personal taste, each student chooses a song to record. After consulting with the musical director.  The class will cover topics such as: voice control, breath control, music theory and more.

Learning to Perform – Bringing Your Song to Life

Students will work on the fundamentals of Acting, Improvisation, dance and movement. Learn: hip hop moves, jazz, & or modern dance. You will learn the music and routine from a musical, which you will sing, act, and dance in. The class will work on technique and choreography for the dance routine chosen for your solo song as well.

Editing Your Song Choice

Students will learn how to record & edit music on their computer.  They will learn how to create loops, do multi-track editing and effects processing.  Students will be given the opportunity to create CD’s and MP3’s of their original compositions!

Audition for Film and Television

A course designed to help actors with their auditions. Open to students of all levels to help them discover what casting directors are looking for & learn to be comfortable on camera.

Improv Workout

A class designed to help students build strong characters through improvisation. Classes consist of various improvisation games and scenes. The goal of the class is to teach students to take risks, overcome mental blocks, and learn to build strong, believable characters.

Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Scene Study

Actors are taught the foundations of technique through opening emotional exercises. Which are used to warm up the actor’s instrument and teach the tools that will be applied to their scene work. Students explore how to apply their back story to the characters they are creating by working on contemporary and classical scenes and monologues. Emphasis is placed on learning how to make the best physical, emotional, and vocal choices.

 

***Study longer and receive the opportunity to work in the business of acting! During a six or twelve month program, you would be eligible to work & audition in theater & film. We have musicals, comedies and dramas performed on stage.
